  In Hillister, it was pretty good except that if you like crackers with your gumbo like I do, bring your own stack, all they want you to have is 6 crackers for a large gumbo. Buy your own and bring them in.... I did every time we came, which was at least once a month. If you like shrimp, they've never heard (apparently) of using lemons on them. (Something you see on EVERY seafood commercial.) If you ask for lemons, they give you a packet of powder mix!?!?! Buy your own and bring them in, also. In the new place at Woodville, plan on spending the night...service time is measured with a calendar. Looks to be too many chiefs and not enough Indians. It's NEVER been busy like the old place, yet service and quality is about 25% as good. Prices are higher...sometimes a move is only a move, not an improvement. We drove 25 minutes to Hillister and apart from buying our own items (crackers, lemons, etc., which we were used to) we were never disappointed. It's not bad to add an extra 10 minutes to go on to Woodville, we go right by there all the time. We now kid each other about just calling off our plans for the day and night and have lunch at the Tree. Don't know why the wait staff ignores you, acts like you're there for them instead of them for you! Must be the new environment. You have to ask for more than one napkin, ask for a straw for your little drink, refills are slow (I guess so you won't ask for one). We've been only five times to what was once our Old Favorite since the move, and two times was to meet with people who wanted to meet there specifically (apparently only for the social aspect; i.e. court house crowd, or who's impressed with whom). The last time, even THEY said they wouldn't ask to meet there again, seeing we were less than enthusiastic about a 45-minute dinner that was going to take at least two hours! Food's not good enough to make up for all the negatives. Our guest from out of state wasn't impressed in the least. I think the owners must be watching their pennies so closely they're losing their dollars. We've been disappointed every single time we've gone since the move. You can have our table, we won't be back.....even if a local insists!
  Take my advice, in the time it's going to take to get seated and get a drink without your straw, you could keep driving north, turn right on 255 and in about 25 minutes you'll arrive at The Stump. You'll see and taste what has been a regional favorite with all the lakes area people for years and years. It's where we go as often as we used to go to the Tree (when it was in Hillister). From our house, it's about 70 minutes, but honestly I think we're thrilled with our meal and are back home in the same amount of time.... the BIG difference though, .....we're thrilled with our meal!!! Joke to help memory: When you cut TheTree, you're happy with The Stump!!!
